Candied Cayenne Sweet Potato

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw sweet potato - scrubbed, chopped
  • 1 crispin apple - chopped
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1 tbsp hemp seed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ice

This smoothie is sweet with a little heat. The crispin or mutsu apple is a cross between the Golden Delicious and a Japanese apple called Indo. This apple is a true local, it’s growth almost exclusively in New York state. The crispin lives up to its name by being crisp and juicy with a hint of tartness. It is the perfect counterpart for the sweet raisins, creamy hemp seed and spicy cayenne. If your blender has trouble processing hard foods, such as sweet potatoes, try lightly steaming it before hitting liquify.

Sweet potatoes add a creamy texture with just a hit of sweetness. Try the Sweet Potato Apple Bake or the Sweet Potato Pie.
