5 Smoothie Recipes For Beautiful Skin

Every once in awhile, our skin desperately cries out for a reboot. Whether it’s the cold winter wind, or the hot, muggy summer sun, sometimes we need a little bit more than moisturizer to make things feel smooth and supple.

That’s why, this week, all of our smoothies have ingredients that will give your skin a resurgence of moisture and have it glowing like the day after a spa visit. Foods like ginger, sweet potato, lychee and walnuts will have you feeling beautiful from the inside out — and keep you full all day long!

Lychee Kiwi Glow

If you want to have glowing skin, amping up the amount of vitamin C you eat every day is the perfect way to do it! Native to China, lychee fruits have more vitamin C per serving than oranges, as well as powerful antioxidants, copper and iron. Maqui berry, which has an extremely high amount of antioxidants, is also bursting with vitamin C, as are kiwis. Add in some pumpkin seeds, which are full of magnesium and zinc (minerals that are beneficial for skin), and hydrating coconut water, and you have a delicious, skin-purifying elixir.

Golden Orange Goji

Even though many think yams and sweet potatoes are interchangeable, they’re actually completely different varieties of vegetables. Native to Peru, sweet potatoes are full of beta-carotene (which has been shown to reduce premature aging in skin), and make a rich, creamy smoothie base. Skin-brightening vitamin C is present in both pineapple and orange, and goji berries are also full of beta-carotene. When you add hemp seeds, which are full of Omega-3s (good fats that help reduce inflammation, which in turn reduces wrinkles and blemishes), you’ve got a skin-soothing, satisfying breakfast.

Early Morning Moringa

Full of antioxidants and wrinkle-fighting beta-carotene, moringa is native to South Asia, and is one of those rare fruits that have protein. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger make it another great weapon against premature aging, and the vitamin C in lemon will help give your skin a vibrant glow. Cucumber and apple are extremely hydrating, and swiss chard is bursting with vitamins A, K and C, all of which work harder than an over-the-counter wrinkle cream to keep you looking your best!

Golden Currant Banana Oatmeal

Red currants are full of fiber, iron, and vitamin C, and golden berries contain calcium and B-complex vitamins (which help keep skin cells healthy). Lucuma is a natural, insulin-friendly sweetener that includes skin-brightening zinc and beta-carotene, and walnuts contain vitamin E, which helps skin feel smooth and supple. When you add collard greens, oats and a banana (protein, fiber and potassium) to this beautifying smoothie, you get a meal replacement that will make both your inside and outside feel like a million bucks!

Plum Lavender Protein

While lavender is often used externally to treat irritation or the occasional blemish, it also provides a gentle calming sensation when ingested. Both plums and kale contain ample amounts of vitamin C, which is essential for supple skin, and grapes are bursting with antioxidants. When you add easy-to-digest vegan pea protein and two tablespoons of magnesium and calcium-infused almond butter, you have the kind of nutritious, easy breakfast that healthy dreams (and healthy skin) are made of!
