Everyone loves a good food hack; some new way to enjoy things you already eat that will impress family and friends, and maybe make your life a little easier – or at least cooler.
Summer, of course, is the time of year when a lot of us enjoy parties outside, picnics outside, drinking outside, just generally doing things outside. We also drink a lot of iced coffee and try to make healthier choices so we look better in our swimsuits. Now, imagine there was a food hack for all of these scenarios. Surprise! There is.
Watermelon beer! Watermelon punch! An awesome way to serve drinks at your next rooftop party! This hack is actually pretty simple: All you do is scoop out the majority of a watermelon, and then stick a spigot on one side.
And since watermelon is one of the most hydrating fruits out there, you’re actually doing something healthy for all your guests, even if what’s inside the watermelon has a bit of an alcoholic edge to it.
Make Coffee Ice Cubes
Iced coffee is having a moment. We’re not quite sure why, but it is. And with that in mind, this hack actually fixes the fundamental issue with this drink: waterlogged caffeine.
If you get a traditional iced coffee from a coffee shop, you’re usually getting half coffee, half ice. But if you make a batch of coffee at night, and then pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it, the next morning you can ice down your caffeine with more caffeine!
Grilling is fun. Cleaning the grill is not fun, especially because there’s usually a lot of elbow grease involved. But with this hack, all you need is a lightly heated grill and a half of a onion, and suddenly your cleaning sadness turns into happiness!
The onion quickly and efficiently wipes away cooked-on grime, no scrubbing required. Plus, it’s nontoxic, which is always the optimal way to do things.
Freeze Your Yogurt
Sometimes you wake up and it’s so hot you’re not quite sure what to do, other than stand in front of the open fridge. For mornings (or even afternoons) like these, pour yogurt into Popsicle molds. It’ll feel like you’re having dessert for breakfast.
Put Your Condiments In A Muffin Tin
To keep things running smoothly at your next BBQ, pour all of your condiments into large muffin tins. This way, people can scoop out what they want, without holding up the line by fighting with the ketchup or mustard bottle.
Wrap Your Wine
If you need to cool down your wine in a hurry, wrap it in a wet dishtowel and stick it in the fridge. In 20 minutes, it’ll be perfectly chilled.
Cover Your Drinks
Keep bugs and other things from getting caught in your summer drinks by covering the tops with colorful muffin liners and adding a straw. Cute and creative!
Look, you work hard all year. Give yourself a little R&R by trying one of these awesome hacks, finding some place to hang a random hammock, and kick those shoes off!
