When you add the sun, the beach, sweaty workouts, and super humidity together, you get a pretty tough situation for your hair. Everyone wants to look like they just stepped out of the salon, but unless you’ve actually really just done that (and paid $200 for the experience), maintaining healthy looking hair during the summer can prove just a little bit challenging .
Luckily, there are a few (free) ways to keep your mane looking sleek well into these lazy, hazy days. And the best part is, they’re simple!
Take Some Time Off From The Blow Dryer
Constant blow-drying can leave your hair limp, brittle and puffy. Use the warm weather to your advantage and let your hair air dry overnight. Tying it up into loose braids, or even in two loose buns, with give you nice, natural looking waves come morning.
Rinse Before Swimming
It may seem a little counterintuitive, but rinsing your hair before swimming in the ocean — and especially the pool — helps protect it from salt and chlorine. When you rinse first, your hair soaks up the fresh water to the root, repelling the not-so-nice pool chemicals and the frizifying salt water.
Use natural moisturizers like coconut oil, olive oil and avocado oil as a conditioning mask after you shower. Apply and let sit for 20 to 30 minutes, and then rinse. These oils work to balance your hair’s natural pH, and don’t add anything extra to the follicles like synthetic scents.
Up Your Fluid Intake
A healthy body makes healthy hair (duh), so the more water (and smoothies!) you drink, the smoother your hair will be. Drinking / eating foods with Omega-3s is also a great way to give your strands shine and bounce.
Just because it’s hot enough to make you start sweating the minute you step outside doesn’t mean your hair still can’t be on point! Give it a little extra love, and you’ll see a big difference!
