So raise a pint (of smoothie) and drink to your health and good fortune!
The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland. St. Patrick's Day doesn't traditionally involve drinking a green smoothie but we're shaking things up. Chlorella is rich in chlorophyll, protein, vitamin A, B vitamins, iron, magnesium and zinc. These vitamins and minerals detoxify the body, boost the immune system, and improve digestion. Needless to say, the Shamrock Shake may be just the lucky charm you need to cure a St. Patrick's Day hangover.
Pot of Golden Beets
This simple smoothie is overflowing with so many health benefits, it just might be better than a pot of gold! Golden beets are very mild and sweet compared to their red counterpart. Cara cara oranges are sweet and tangy, providing the perfect contrast to the earthy taste of beets. These oranges also load this smoothie with vitamin C and folic acid, keeping your immunity strong and heart protected. Cara cara oranges are a cross between the Washington navel and the Brazilian Bahia navel and are known for their pinkish red color.
Green Irish Cream
Move over Bailey's, this Irish Cream is loaded with vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and tons of superfoods. Lucuma powder hails from Peru and brings a subtly sweet caramel finish without causing a sugar crash. Cashews and hemp seeds provide plenty of omega-3 fatty acids while also adding potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, phosphorus, and almost every essential amino acid.
The Four Leaf Clover
This is one lucky smoothie. Wheatgrass contains more than 90 minerals including potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, as well as enzymes and 19 amino acids. It suppresses appetite, reduces fatigue and improves digestion. White mulberries are added as an extra lucky charm, containing the powerful and rare antioxidant resveratrol. Mulberries are known to enhance cardiovascular health, prevent signs of aging, and promote healthy circulation.
Green Ginger Twist
Thanks to ginger, lime, and moringa, this green smoothie is another excellent hangover remedy. Lime's acidity is a natural digestive aid. Ginger also helps with digestion, and is even known to alleviate gastrointestinal distress. Moringa is a plant native to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. It's a strong detoxifier and a natural immune booster, too. This smoothie will keep you feeling healthy long after the St. Patrick's Day festivities.
Mint Chocolate Shamrock
For this smoothie, we’re partnering with Gotham Greens, a New York company that grows all its produce in pesticide free, ecologically sustainable, 100% clean energy greenhouses - basically, it’s the freshest, cleanest lettuce you’ve ever had! When cacao beans are roasted and ground, they become cocoa, but if they’re slowly dried, they’re remain cacao, the rawest form of chocolate there is. Cacao is extremely high in antioxidants, and is often used as a natural mood elevator. This healthy version of a chocolate shake also contains mint in its natural form, which is known to help with digestion and give a little boost to your energy.
While a traditional Irish coffee is made with whiskey, this healthy smoothie version uses green coffee powder, which is made from unroasted coffee beans. In addition to being rich in antioxidants (as well as caffeine), green coffee also contains chlorogenic acid, a natural compound that has been linked to weight loss. Mixing it up with some heart-healthy, cholesterol-lowering rolled oats, creamy coconut milk, cancer-fighting grapes, and collard greens (rich in vitamin A and protein), and you’ve got an energizing green drink that will keep you satisfied all day long.
If you find yourself waking up after a fun night of St. Patrick’s day revelries with a bit of a headache, this traditional detox smoothie should have you right as rain in no time. Flaxseeds contain a healthy dose of Omega-3s, fiber and antioxidants, and have been shown to lower cholesterol and even possibly protect against hot flashes. Add in some anti-inflammatory power from ginger, some hydration from cucumber and honeydew, and an alkalizing effect from lemon, and you’ve got a smoothie that will give your body and your mind a clean feel, no matter what went on the night before.
Luck of the Eye-rish
If you’ve ever wondered why everyone always says carrots are good for your eyes, here’s the reason: Vitamin A deficiency can damage normal vision, and beta-carotene (which carrots have) can help correct that deficiency. Goji berries are also very high in beta-carotene, as well as iron, and are known anti-inflammatories. Carrots, the orange, avocado and goji berries are all high in vitamin C, making this bright smoothie healthy for both your immune system and your biggest organ - your skin!
Camu camu has the most vitamin C per serving than any other recorded food, and chlorella not only boosts immune systems, but also provides B vitamins that are usually only found in animal products. Pineapple, kiwi, pear and kale are all high in vitamin C, and coconut milk and cashews are bursting with healthy fat. If you want to walk around glowing like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (and give your immune and nervous system a boost), this is the smoothie for you!
